Versatile experiences from practical musical life with a wide variety of instruments, mouthpieces and their combinations were tabulated and analyzed.The collected material raised one particular question: why do some variants work better than others? When excluding the influence of the individual player and playing technique, one is left with the combination of instrument and mouthpiece. Apparently, this combination should operate - from a physical point of view - in the best possible way. Early experiments with the mouthpiece geometry already brought us to (if not beyond) the limits of the manufacturing technology that was available to us in the first stage of development. Nevertheless, these initial tests clarified an essential point: is it possible to achieve meaningful improvements by influencing the mouthpiece geometry? Yes, it is!

Our production engineering expertise initially lies in the planning and preparation of production data. The development of a parametrically controlled, digital design model is the basis on which controlled research is carried out and prototypes are produced for testing. A design model that grows with the idea, which is adapted and continuously improved in interaction with the test results, provides the data for series production.

The second part of our technical expertise concerns manufacturing and production. Only through many years of experience in machining is it possible to produce results that are repeatable 1:1 and can subsequently be multiplied. The entire mouthpiece development process is dependent on precision and production in line with planning. Technical expertise also involves the use of machines, high-tech tools, measuring technology and digital craftsmanship.

The technical know-how in production ensures that our quality reaches the musicians when they buy a mouthpiece.

After having experimented with various geometrically adapted mouthpieces and discussed some questions of how to manufacture them, we asked ourselves what to do with our promising idea. This in turn led quite naturally to the founding of the company Parametrix Mundstücke OG. The company represents an alliance of musical / instrument-based expertise and engineering / manufacturing expertise, combined with a fascination for identifying opportunities for improvement. With October 2025, we share the first results of an colorful development and introduce ourselves to the colorful world of mouthpieces.
