This approximately 100-year-old Heckel mouthpiece is being digitally reconstructed and replicated for a customer. This mouthpiece produces sound without compromise when used with historical instruments. Considering the manufacturing technology available 100 years ago, this is a testament to exceptional craftsmanship combined with a precise understanding of the physical principles of sound production.

Accompanied for five days by a master of the trumpet, Steven Emery from Boston, we find ourselves in the midst of an exciting process of growth.

Our lead mouthpieces for trumpet and trombone (R cup type) as well as the extended P cup type for trumpet (P7, P8 and P9) are available and ready for testing.

It took a few requests, suggestions and time to move the cornet mouthpiece to the center of the development work. We are already at an advanced stage of development and are still making adjustments. Once again, the basis for fine-tuning is feedback and test playing results from people who play this instrument on a daily basis. Finding the „balance“ in the geometry means optimizing the function, gaining qualities in sound projection, response and intonation. We are already looking forward to integrating a mouthpiece for this instrument into our program! We expect to be able to offer a new cornet mouthpiece series in the summer.

PARAMETRIX Mouthpiece finder - the innovative online orientation guide: 

This tool serves as a guide for selecting a suitable Parametrix mouthpiece. Suggestions are generated based on parameters. This is done either by selecting a reference mouthpiece or by specifying individual sizes (nominal diameter, bore, ...). The initial technical data used in this process comes exclusively from publicly accessible or publicly presented manufacturer information. This tool was developed by Alex Friedemann, who distributes our mouthpieces as a PARAMETRIX partner.

Alex Friedemann is known for his development of mutes for trumpet and trombone/eophonium - A-Mute. He develops and researches sound using manufacturing technologies from the field of 3D printing. This morning we had a visit from ORF Salzburg to our production facility in Henndorf am Wallersee. The place where our digital craftsmanship for the production of our mouthpieces is developed. Next week, a report is planned for the ORF program „Salzburg-Heute“ and „Guten Morgen Österreich“. Part of the team that is responsible for the quality of our mouthpiece development work will be there. This will be a compact insight into what we do, with background information.

For a change, this post doesn't show a picture of mouthpieces 😉. Instead, it's a picture of an excursion into nature, in which tranquillity is expressed through nature. Tranquillity is a good and important partner for people who work with and on sound.

We will be busy this year with exhibitions, presentations and networking. Making the result of intensive development visible with a positive response will keep us more and more busy. A highlight in 2026 will be the Brawo trade fair in Stuttgart in November, but we will also be delighted to present our work at smaller exhibitions in Germany, France and Italy. Trumpeter Alex Friedemann and inventor of „A Mute trumpet mutes“ is a new partner of Parametrix Mundstücke in North Rhine-Westphalia. On March 20 and 21, we were delighted to be represented at the in-house exhibition at Musikhaus Bozen. After an intensive week of new models in the K-cup series for trombone and variants of the P-cup series for trumpet, 400 mouthpieces are ready to be silver-plated. In the next few weeks, trumpet mouthpieces of the P-cup type will be made available in the smaller nominal diameters P7=16.7mm, P8=16.6mm and P9=16.5mm. An article will be published on this website in the next few days about the experiences and background to the idea of our concept mouthpiece in connection with individual personal requirements.

Our mouthpieces can be tested either at one of our partners or by sending us a test kit. After exchanging consultation information, up to a maximum of 8 mouthpieces will be sent for testing. We charge € 5,- manipulation fee per test mouthpiece plus shipping costs. The mouthpieces will be returned to us no later than two weeks after acceptance by the parcel service. A maximum of € 30,- test fee will be credited as a deposit in case of a purchase.

are now available. They are manufactured to fit the small shank.

We are now offering the „K cup type K“ for euphonium and trombones in our online store. The aim of this development was to emphasize the low mids in the frequency spectrum more strongly than with the other mouthpieces, thus enabling a particularly velvety-smooth sound. This cup type is manufactured from 26.2 mm (K0), in 0.2 mm steps downwards, up to 24.6 mm (K7) nominal diameter, for all three trombone shanks.

From the idea to the development strategies to the production of a mouthpiece, it is an exciting process with many unknowns along the way! The release of current developments is planned for May, when Paramterix will also be able to offer lead mouthpieces for trombones and trumpets.
