Digitally crafted mouthpieces for brass instruments
Building upon traditional mouthpiece manufacturing and applying novel ideas, we develop mouthpieces for brass instruments. Our aim is to make modern production technology usable for music in order to achieve better results. The mouthpiece geometry is examined in detail, rethought using digitally supported craftsmanship, work processes are optimized, and potential for improvement is identified. Our universal concept offers a wide range of possibilities with just a few basic types. We also produce customized mouthpieces for special requirements.
For us, the actual value in mouthpiece manufacturing lies in supporting musicians in their music and making the overall musical process more enjoyable. PARAMETRIX MUNDSTÜCKE develops and produces in Austria at highest quality standards.

The first six months
For a change, this post doesn't show a picture of mouthpieces 😉. Instead, it's a picture of an excursion into nature, in which tranquillity is expressed through nature. Tranquillity is a good and important partner for people who work with and on sound.
Our first six months on the market with www.ptrix.at and our range of mouthpieces taught us a lot about the basic nature of the colorful world of mouthpieces. We now know from our own experience how important intersections between trade fairs, universities and dedicated specialist retailers are. But also: synergies between creative minds in instrument making bring the big picture forward as a result. For example, the fruitful encounter with Musikhaus Bozen and our „sound partnership“ with Alex Friedemann (A Mute) with his innovative concept of mute construction for trumpets and trombones. At the heart of it all is the culture of sound and the creation and distribution of the best possible tools for making music in the physical world - and that is exciting enough!
We will be busy this year with exhibitions, presentations and networking. Making the result of intensive development visible with a positive response will keep us more and more busy. A highlight in 2026 will be the Brawo trade fair in Stuttgart in November, but we will also be delighted to present our work at smaller exhibitions in Germany, France and Italy. We will keep you informed about the individual activities!
A Mute - new partner
Trumpeter Alex Friedemann and inventor of „A Mute trumpet mutes“ is a new partner of Parametrix Mundstücke in North Rhine-Westphalia. He develops and produces trumpet and trombone mutes based on a finely differentiated sound concept. A modular case program for mouthpieces will also be available soon.Website A Mute

Ready for finishing
After an intensive week of new models in the K-cup series for trombone and variants of the P-cup series for trumpet, 400 mouthpieces are ready to be silver-plated. In the next few weeks, trumpet mouthpieces of the P-cup type will be made available in the smaller nominal diameters P7=16.7mm, P8=16.6mm and P9=16.5mm. An article will be published on this website in the next few days about the experiences and background to the idea of our concept mouthpiece in connection with individual personal requirements.
InstruVents in Spain
InstruVents is a Palma de Mallorca-based company that builds trumpets, flugelhorns and trombones by hand. Diego Pineiro is the master of this company with a very fine vision for aesthetics in instrument making. Great musicians - InstruVent's customers - tested our mouthpieces in combination with instruments from this company. Exploring the different combinations of instrument/mouthpiece/musician made for an exciting day! As a partner for our mouthpieces in Mallorca de Palma, we are delighted with this collaboration! We will also manufacture receivers with specific specifications for InstruVents in order to create the „Gap“ with pinpoint accuracy.Test mouthpiece

P7 (nominal ø 24.6mm)
and :
G5 (nominal ø 25.35mm)

Euphonium/trombone
We are now offering the „K cup type K“ for euphonium and trombones in our online store. The aim of this development was to emphasize the low mids in the frequency spectrum more strongly than with the other mouthpieces, thus enabling a particularly velvety-smooth sound. This cup type is manufactured from 26.2 mm (K0), in 0.2 mm steps downwards, up to 24.6 mm (K7) nominal diameter, for all three trombone shanks.
Lead mouthpieces
We can now publish the results of the development of lead mouthpieces for trumpet and trombone. It is the „cup type R“ for trumpet and trombone. Both mouthpieces have been developed for the special requirements of lead playing and there are 3 mouthpiece models for both instruments, which differ in nominal diameter. They will soon be available in the online store and can also be tested soon on request. The cornet mouthpiece is currently under development and is also being tested in collaboration with an experienced orchestral musician. Cornet mouthpieces are another specialty in our work, with a cup dimension that lies between the trumpet and flugelhorn, and are expected to be released before the summer.
Current developments
From the idea to the development strategies to the production of a mouthpiece, it is an exciting process with many unknowns along the way! The release of current developments is planned for May, when Paramterix will also be able to offer lead mouthpieces for trombones and trumpets.
